* WHAT…For the Winter Weather Advisory, mixed precipitation
expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice
accumulations up to one tenth of an inch. For the Winter Storm
Watch, wet and heavy snow possible. Total wet snow accumulations
between 4 and 8 inches possible. Local wet snow accumulations up
to 10 inches are possible in eastern Cook County.
* WHERE…Cook and northern Lake Counties. This includes the Tribal
Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation. This also includes the
Boundary Waters eastern and central area.
* WHEN…For the Winter Weather Advisory, from midnight tonight to 3
PM CST Saturday. For the Winter Storm Watch, from Sunday afternoon
through Monday morning.
* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions Friday night and
through Saturday. Beginning Sunday afternoon, wet snow and
easterly winds off of Lake Superior gusting to 35 mph may down
power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. The hazardous
conditions could impact the Monday morning commute. Roads, and
especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and
hazardous.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The Sunday afternoon through Monday morning
snow event is forecast to have lower snow to liquid ratios closer
to 7 to 10 inches of snowfall to one inch of liquid water
equivalent. These lower snowfall ratios could produce a more wet
and heavy snow load than the more recent lighter and fluffier snow
events in the eastern Arrowhead.
