Apple Music announced Friday that SZA will be featured as a special guest in Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX halftime show performance at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Feb. 9.
The news was revealed in a video posted on X, which included SZA giving Lamar the Gatorade bath typically reserved for Super Bowl-winning head coaches:
SZA’s involvement in the Super Bowl halftime show is not a big surprise since she and Lamar have collaborated many times over the years.
On Lamar’s GNX album, which was released in November, SZA was featured in the songs “Luther” and “Gloria.” Also, the hit song “30 for 30,” which dropped earlier this month, was co-written and performed by SZA and Lamar.
The Super Bowl halftime show will serve as a preview for the Grand National Tour co-headlined by Lamar and SZA, which will run from April to June 2025.
This weekend, the matchup for Super Bowl LIX will be determined when the NFC and AFC Championship Games are held.
In the NFC, the second-seeded Philadelphia Eagles and superstar running back Saquon Barkley will host the No. 6 Washington Commanders and sensational rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Meanwhile, in the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills will meet in the playoffs for the fourth time in the past five years, headlined by another showdown between quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.
Regardless of how Sunday’s title games play out, the pieces are in place for a highly entertaining Super Bowl and halftime performance.
