After staying healthy for most of the season so far, Anthony Davis suffered an injury in the Los Angeles Lakers’ Christmas Day game against the Golden State Warriors.
The power forward went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter and was listed as questionable to return, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. Shams Charania of ESPN later reported that he was out for the remainder of the game.
It’s unclear what Davis’ injury is and whether he will have to miss time.
Davis has missed just one game so far this season due to an aggravated foot injury that was later diagnosed as plantar fasciitis, per McMenamin. He missed the Lakers’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Nov. 6 but was back on the court later that week as Los Angeles faced the Philadelphia 76ers.
In a Nov. 10 matchup against the Toronto Raptors, Davis was struck in the face by the hand of Raptors big man Jakob Poeltl. He went to the locker room halfway through the third quarter and did not return to the game.
According to McMenaminDavis experienced swelling in the left eye which made it difficult to keep open, but he had his eye examined by an ophthalmologist and avoided missing any time due to the eye injury.
Davis has been the Lakers’ best player and emerged as an MVP candidate early this year. He’s since cooled down a bit but is still putting up 26.6 points, 11.8 boards, 2.2 blocks and 1.3 steals per game.
If the Lakers have any chance at a title this season, Davis will be at the forefront of that championship run and they’ll hope he can avoid missing serious time.
