Real Madrid star Arda Guler has been criticized for showing “immaturity” in his most recent performance for Turkey, while it was also concluded there that he is currently unhappy in the Spanish capital.
Guler became a hero in his homeland this summer for strong performances befitting of a veteran at Euro 2024.
A wondergoal from outside the box against Georgia was his main highlight, and one of the strikes of the tournament eventually won by Spain.
Upon his return to said country, however, Guler has been frozen out by head coach Carlo Ancelotti and recently went on a run of being unused in a string of matches alongside fellow teen sensation Endrick.
This meant that Guler was unable to make an impact in heavy defeats to a club he was strongly linked to before his move to Madrid from Fenerbahce in FC Barcelona, as well as AC Milan in the Champions League.
Given a short run out towards the end of a La Liga win over Osasuna where Ancelotti lost three men to first half injuries, Guler then went on international duty with Turkey but struggled in a goalless draw with Wales in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday.
Reacting to his performance, retired Turkish footballer and modern day commentator Mustafa Denizli said that Arda showed “immaturity” in his display.
“It’s normal because he’s not in the same condition as when he went to Real Madrid. He doesn’t look happy there. We know that he has enjoyed few minutes and opportunities, but his rivals in the dressing room have increased their performances,” Denizli added.
Arda being unhappy is something that OK Diario director Eduardo Inda recently reportedas Guler was left out of a derby draw against Atletico Madrid in late September and subsequently linked to a potential exit from the club he joined in mid-2023.
Elsewhere, Turkey coach Vincenzo Montella lamented Guler’s rustiness brought on by a lack of prominence on Ancelotti’s watch.
“He’s a talented player with a fast game, but he has not played continuously for a long time. I was convinced that he could not continue due to physical problems,” the Italian stated post-match.
