Hear Franz Ferdinand Cover Chappell Roan’s ‘Good Luck Babe’

“This song’s incredible,” says Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos

As hits like “Take Me Out” suggest, Franz Ferdinand has always had an ear for great pop songs with huge hooks — so it’s not surprising that the band are huge fans of Chappell Roan. During a recent Sofa Session with Jo Whiley for BBC Radio 2, Franz performed a superb, rocked-up cover of “Good Luck Babe” that could pass for a Franz original, with frontman Alex Kapranos dipping into the lowest part of his range.

“It’s just an amazing song by an incredible artist,” Kapranos said. “It’s funny, you get some artists that have a moment — often, it’s kind of divisive. Some people absolutely love them and some people hate them. But I’ve not come across anybody I know, none of my friends, nobody I know, who doesn’t like this artist. They’re just so good. This song’s incredible, so we’re going to play it.”

Franz Ferdinand will release their first album in seven years, The Human FearJan. 10. They’ve dropped two singles from the album so far, “Audacious” and “Night or Day.” The album is the first to feature drummer Audrey Tait, who replaced original drummer Paul Thomson in 2021.
