The Wild Robot—the hit animated movie starring the voice of Lupita Nyong’o—arrives on streaming on Peacock this week.
Rated PG, The Wild Robot—which is based on the bestselling children’s book by Peter Brown—opened in theaters on Sept. 27. Nyong’o voices Rozzum Unit 7134—Roz for short—a robot that finds itself in dangerous surroundings after it washes up on the shore of an island that is only populated by wild animals.
Roz immediately finds a purpose on the island when an orphaned egg hatches and a gosling named Brightbill (voice of Kit Connor) immediately imprints on the robot and looks at it as his mother. Roz and Brightbill soon discover that they must be careful of the animals they meet on the island, beginning with a fox named Fink (Pedro Pascal).
The Wild Robot also stars the voices of Catherine O’Hara, Ving Rhames, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry, Bill Nighy and Mark Hamill.
According to Peacock, The Wild Robot arrives on the streaming service on Friday, Jan. 24.
Even though The Wild Robot was produced by DreamWorks Animation, it was distributed by Universal Pictures, as such, The Wild Robot’s streaming video on demand is on Peacock, which is NBC Universal’s streaming platform.
You must subscribe to Peacock to watch The Wild Robot on the platform. Peacock offers an ad-based subscription package for $7.99 per month or $79 yearly, as well as an ad-free subscription package for $13.99 per month or $139.99 yearly.
Viewers who don’t subscribe to Peacock can also purchase or rent the film on digital streaming via premium video on demand.
‘The Wild Robot’ Has Been Celebrated Throughout Awards Season
The Wild Robot has received multiple nominations this awards season, including Best Animated Feature nominations from the Annie Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Golden Globes, NAACP Image Awards, Producers Guild Awards and British Academy of Film and Television Academy Awards.
In addition, The Wild Robot has also been awarded with Best Animated Feature honors from the Dallas-Fort World Film Critics Association, the Kansas City Film Critics Circle and the Las Vegas Film Critics Society.
Rotten Tomatoes critics collectively gave The Wild Robot a 97% “fresh” rating based on 247 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus reads, “A simple tale told with great sophistication, The Wild Robot is wondrous entertainment that dazzles the eye while filling your heart to the brim.”
Audiences also embraced The Wild Robot on RTgiving the film a 98% “fresh” rating on the site’s Popcornmeter based on 5,000-plus verified user ratings. The audience summary for the film on RT reads, “Adapted from the bestselling novel, DreamWorks’ The Wild Robot will steal hearts both young and old.”
Per The Numbers, The Wild Robot earned $143.5 million domestically and $181 million internationally for a worldwide box office take of $324.5 million against a $78 million production budget before prints and advertising costs.
The Wild Robot arrives on streaming on Peacock on Friday.
