* WHAT…For the Coastal Flood Warning, 2 to 4 feet of inundation
above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal
waterways. For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 5
to 9 feet in the surf zone.
* WHERE…Ocracoke Island and Hatteras Island.
* WHEN…Until 11 AM EST Saturday.
* IMPACTS…Up to 2 to 4 feet of inundation above ground level is
possible in some areas near shorelines and tidal waterways
resulting in a significant threat to life and property. Severe
flooding will extend inland from the waterfront causing
potential flooding of some homes and businesses. In some areas,
battering waves could cause additional damage to property. Some
roads may be impassable under several feet of water and vehicles
submerged. Portions of Highway 12 will likely be impacted with
ocean overwash in Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, especially
around times of high tide (around 6:40 PM this evening and 7 AM
Saturday morning).
